Today’s motivation for the metaphysical blog is due to a live video presentation I did this week. Unfortunately, I was so nervous I forgot to gather the right materials to have in front of me for any questions that might come up. So, in order to do the wonderful Amethyst justice, I’ve designated a full blog about its origin, history, and metaphysical properties.
Beautiful Amethyst Crystals
The Amethyst is a trigonal crystal of the Quartz family. Its color can vary from a pale to deep purple which comes from the trace amounts of iron and aluminum. They can be found all over the world, including Mexico, Africa, Canada, Russia, Brazil and the USA. Used for centuries and often prized for their beauty, this crystal is often used in jewelry, and highly regarded as the stone of royalty. The Amethyst can be found in crowns, scepters, and rings of bishops. It is said this stone was the ninth stone in the breastplate of the high priest of Israel, as well as one of ten stones engraved with the names of the tribes of Israel.
Dating back to Greek mythology, the name Amethyst (a Greek word meaning ‘not drunken’) belongs to a young woman, whose unfortunate ending came on her way to worship at the shrine of Diana. The god Bacchus, incensed by an insult, decreed the first person he met would be eaten by his tigers. Before the tigers could make lunch of the poor girl, Diana transformed her into a clear transparent crystal. Remorseful of the whole event, Bacchus poured the juice of his grapes over the stone as an offering, which gave the gem its beautiful purple color. The Greeks believed the result of this gave the Amethyst its ability to prevent intoxication, calm anger, and relieve frustrated passion.
Amethyst Sphere
When reviewing its long history of use in spiritual work, the crystal has retained many of its metaphysical attributes throughout the years. Viewed as a stone of spiritual protection and purification, it can be used to aid those needing to curb overindulgence and give up bad habits. Those needing to quit smoking, drinking or drug use would benefit by adding this stone to their treatment regimen. The Amethyst helps to balance the nervous system and the brain, its energy also supporting oxygenation in the blood, especially when combined with Hematite or Magnetite. The combination of Sugilite and Amethyst together are the best pair for releasing addictive behaviors.
Amethyst Crystal Rock Formation
Often used to clear one’s energy of negative influences and attachments, it is used to help in the creating of an energy ‘shield’ of spiritual Light to ward off negative environmental effects. The stone stimulates the crown chakra, aiding in meditation and clearing one’s thoughts to move into a higher state of consciousness. In meditation, the stones ability to activate the higher mind can help one to comprehend the root causes of life experiences, and assist in eliminating emotion-based decision making. When combined with other stones, such as th Azeztulite, Phenacite, Scolocite and Natrolite, the spiritual connection of the Amethyst is enhanced. I found a beautiful free photo online, and used it as my backdrop. My hosting site is BlueHost, and they use WordPress as their platform. Quite a few different site templates available.
